Our professionals have been trained to be able to answer questions regarding the new changes with the National Flood Insurance Program.
The biggest misconception when it comes to flood coverage, is that it is included with your homeowners’ or business’ insurance. THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!! Flood insurance is regulated by the federal government (FEMA), and is always a policy separate from property coverage.
In most cases, flood insurance policies do not go into effect until 30 days after purchase of coverage, so call us now to let us help protect your most important asset.
30 Days to wait…
The National Flood Insurance Reform Act (NFIRA) of 1994 lengthened the waiting period required before an NFIP policy can go into effect from 5 to 30 days. This 30-day wait is for “coverage under a new contract for flood insurance” and “any modification to coverage under an existing flood insurance contract.” The express intent of Congress in mandating a 30-day waiting period was to prevent the purchase of flood insurance just before a flood hits.
Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014
Effective on April 1, 2015, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) implemented a variety of changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
One of the upcoming changes to the NFIP includes the addition of a $250 surcharge If a covered building is not determined to be the primary residence of your customer before the policy renewal date.

“During the purchase of a new house, I took the opportunity to shop my insurance, as my current provider’s quote was over the top. I looked at several of the major, well-advertised carriers besides getting a quote from Texas General. Texas General not only beat the others significantly in price, but the policy was with a well-known, nationwide carrier and they made the switch quick and easy. I have been with them for two years now and have no complaints.”
